Alliance 2020 Employment Screening FAQ

How long does a background check take?

Standard turnaround time for a best practice report is 1-3 business days. At times there may be delays extending beyond the standard turnaround time. Alliance 2020 notifies its clients of any changes.

How do I cancel a background check?

Depending on where an applicant is in the background check process, either an Alliance 2020 client can manually cancel out the order in the system, or email support@alliance2020.com and our team can assist. Keep in mind, if a background check process has already begun by Alliance 2020, the report must be completed. The results will be available to the client. by Alliance 2020, I.e., counties and/or Federal District Courthouse requests already made, for compliance reasons we must complete the report.

Can I run an international background check?
Alliance 2020 can run international background checks in virtually every country in the world. Each country has different disclosure requirements as well as turnaround times and costs. Each request is handled with the client directly in order to ensure the requirements are met.
How do you decide which counties to check?
Alliance 2020 decides which counties to check in a couple of different ways. Our processors are trained to review the address history provided by a candidate on their application to decide if the addresses listed are within the 7-year scope. Coinciding with the application, we run an SSN (Social Security Number) trace, which pulls address history data originating from the credit bureaus. In addition to this, if there are records found in the Multi-State Nationwide search that are not found in the above-mentioned ways, we add those counties in order to verify the record(s).
What if the candidate changed their name in the past?
It is always recommended to search all true legal names of a candidate that has been used within the 7-year lookback period timeframe. The reason being, legal names and criminal history are not attached to each other in the court systems. If we only search a current legal name, and that individual has criminal history under an earlier legal name, we could miss the criminal history entirely.
How much do background checks cost?
There can be many facets to a background check, on top of the standard criminal searches. As a good rule of thumb, a background screening report may cost between half to a full day’s pay for the new employee hired.
How is candidate data stored?
Candidate data is stored within high security, secure server, accessed only by authorized individuals that have been vetted and are given login credentials to access the sensitive information.
Do I get refunded if my candidate withdraws from the application process?
Unfortunately, because the hiring process is between you and your candidates, if we run a background check and the candidate withdraws from the application process, we are unable to provide a refund.
How can I check the status of a background check?
You can view statuses of background checks easily within your Alliance 2020 portal. Once you are logged in to the portal, you will be able to determine which parts of the report is completed and pending. Our processing departments will also email status updates if there is a delay with any facet of a candidate’s report.
What happens if there are inaccuracies in the results?
Because the court systems are not perfect, there are legal processes in place that grant protections to candidates in the event there are inaccuracies on a report furnished by a background screening company. A screening company must respond to and assist in remedying any inaccurate information on a candidate’s report. Alliance 2020 is determined to meet the needs of the client and the candidate in regard to any inaccuracies. If there is any information updated in the report, both the client and the candidate are notified.
Do background reports expire?
Although background check reports don’t technically “expire,” due to data retention laws it is common practice for reports to be housed in the Alliance 2020 system for 5 years before being purged. You may house reports outside of the Alliance 2020 system though, for as long as you would like, depending on your internal policies and ensuring the data is protected as well.
Why is an SSN trace important?
An SSN trace is important because it identifies the address history of a candidate, which allows our court processors to accurately do our criminal searching in the places that a candidate has lived in the last 7 years.
Does a job applicant have to consent to a background check?
A job applicant must ALWAYS consent, in writing, to a background check. Furthermore, on top of the federal disclosures and authorizations, there may be state and city specific disclosures a candidate will also need to acknowledge, depending on where the candidate is working and residing within the US.
How does Alliance 2020 search records?

Alliance 2020 aims to provide an FCRA compliant, best practice report for its clients. We pull the address history of a candidate based off of Social Security Number data, called and “SSN Trace” then take that address history and go to the counties and Federal districts in the areas that a candidate has lived in the last 7 years.. In addition to these live courthouse searches, we will run a nationwide criminal database search to cast a wider blanket across the country. If we locate any “hits” in this database, our court researchers will verify the “hit” at the courthouse level, to ensure it is the most up to date and accurate information.

What if my business has several locations?
Alliance 2020 can set up child accounts for all your various locations. This will allow reports to be ordered under each specific location. By setting up your account this way, it can aid with tracking and billing across your multiple locations.
How does account set up work, and how long does it take?
Once the decision is finalized to work with Alliance 2020, new clients must sign our service agreement. Once signed, account set up usually takes one business day. Any delays are relayed to you. Once set up, your Alliance 2020 account executive will contact you and your team to schedule a training of the system. Alliance 2020 also closely monitors all new client set ups for 90 days, ensuring a smooth onboarding process.
What if my candidate has lived in multiple states?
