For many background checks, submitting fingerprints is often a requirement. Fingerprint results run through various criminal databases to detect any crimes someone has on record. There are two methods: ink and electronic fingerprinting. The method you need depends on the purpose of the test.
Ink Fingerprints
Federal agencies, foreign passports, and nursing licenses typically require ink fingerprinting. Many companies opt for ink prints in the case of employment and the hiring process. The FD-258 fingerprint card is the standard FBI fingerprint card, a service we offer here at Alliance 2020. The process for ink fingerprints is straightforward. The applicant must first fill out the FD-258 card. A fingerprint technician will then review for accuracy. The technician will roll the applicant’s fingers in ink and then roll them on the fingerprint card. As a result, it typically takes about two minutes to complete each card.
Electronic Fingerprints
Washington State requires electronic fingerprints for the following: DSHS, DEL, DOLSGU, DOLRE and insurance sales. Advantages to digital prints are that they’re not as messy and more accurate than ink. The technician receives instant confirmation of whether the fingerprints are of high enough quality to pass. However, electronic fingerprints cannot be sent across state lines. Nonetheless, if you plan to apply for a license out of state, you need ink fingerprinting.
